  • Carriage of pets

    Passengers are allowed to carry certain animals (cats, dogs, turtles) in compliance with the requirements of the airline and the authorities.

    To obtain a transportation permit, it is mandatory:

    • the presence of an animal's passport;
    • veterinary certificate (must be obtained from veterinary supervision);
    • the presence of a tattoo or microchip to identify him;
    • availability of a container for an animal;
    • soothing sprays or pills, if the transportation is carried out in the cabin (for use during the flight, if necessary).

    A special request is required at least 24 hours before departure. To confirm, you need to fill out a form or contact to Call Center, WhatsApp consultants, ticketing offices (contacts and addresses), travel agencies.

  • How much does it cost to transport a pet?

  • Where do I pay for my pet's transportation?

    Payment for the transportation of an animal is made at check-in.

  • What is the measurement guideline for a pet carrier in the cabin?

    The size of the carrier should be at most 30 x 47 x 27 cm for Airbus and Boeing and 29 x 43 x 26 cm for Embraer. Please contact the place where you purchased your ticket or please fill out this web form.

  • How do passengers board an airplane with a pet?

    Passengers with pets in the cabin are seated in the rear of the cabin about ten rows apart.

  • How to organize the transportation of rodents and birds?

  • Can I carry more than one animal in one container in the cabin?

    You can transport up to three animals of the same litter whose age does not exceed six months in one container.

  • Can I carry several animals in one container in the baggage compartment?

    In one container, it is allowed to transport up to two animals of approximately the same size, which are used to living together, and the weight of each animal should be at most 14 kg. Animals weighing more than 14 kg are transported in separate containers.

  • What are the container requirements?

    The pet transportation carrier should be sturdy enough with a liquid-proof bottom, have holes for ventilation and feeding, and the airline should be roomy enough.

  • What is the size of the box/carrier for transporting a pet in the baggage compartment?

    The maximum size of the carrier is (length, width, height) 122x81x88 for Airbus, Boeing, and 80x70x50 cm for Embraer. Animals weighing 40 kg or more are transported in sturdy wooden crates. The owner of the animal must provide crates.

  • Is it possible to bring a guide dog?

    Passengers with permanent visual impairments may travel with their guide dogs at no additional charge. A trained guide dog can follow into the cabin and be at his master's feet, but he must be wearing a muzzle.

    The transportation of guide dogs to London is not permitted.

  • What is the allowable weight of a pet for transportation?

    To be transported in the cabin, the weight of the pet and the carrier must be at most 8 kg. The maximum weight of an animal carried in the baggage compartment is 50 kg, including the weight of the container.

  • Can an animal be carried without a prior request?

    Air Astana warns you to only bring your pets directly to the passenger check-in counter with prior approval and Booking for transportation, as we may not be prepared to transport them.

  • What documents are required for transporting pets?

    Documents required for the transportation of animals are the following: 

    • Veterinary passport of your pet;
    • Veterinary certificate;
    • Microchip or tattoo to identify your pet.

    All the documents must be submitted at your pet's registration time just before departure. Please clarify the requirements of the country of entry/exit in case of additional restrictions due to coronavirus infection.

  • What age is appropriate for a pet to fly?

    The age of puppies and cats allowed for transportation in Kazakhstan starts from 8 weeks. The age of pets allowed for transportation abroad starts from 3 months.

  • How many animals can one passenger travel with?

    According to safety regulations, one pet per passenger can fly in the cabin.

    However, it is also permitted to transport up to three animals from the same litter, under six months of age, in one container. In this case, the standard charge is applied based on the actual weight of all the animals in the container (not per individual animal).
  • Are there special restrictions for other countries?

    Importing and exporting pets as luggage is prohibited in some countries, such as India, Great Britain, Ireland, South Africa, and Australia. The only way to transport animals to the countries mentioned above is by air waybill. For transportation to the above countries, please contact cargo@airastana.com.

    In India and the UAE, only the export of animals is allowed; import is permitted only with a cargo air waybill.
