  • What medical note is needed for pregnancies?

    Pregnant women with a gestational age of up to and including 22 weeks are accepted for carriage without providing a medical certificate confirming their fitness to fly.

    Pregnant women with a gestational age from 22 up to and including 34 weeks in case of a single pregnancy, and from 22 up to and including 32 weeks in case of a multiple pregnancy, are accepted for carriage upon presentation of a medical certificate issued by a medical institution indicating the gestational age and satisfactory health condition. For departures from international stations, the certificate must be accompanied by a translation into English. The validity of the certificate is 30 days. A maternity record card is not required.

    Pregnant women with a gestational age of more than 34 weeks in case of a single pregnancy, and more than 32 weeks in case of a multiple pregnancy, are accepted for carriage only upon presentation of a conclusion from a Medical Advisory Commission. The conclusion must be issued in the form No. 026/u, approved by the Order of the Acting Minister of Health of the Republic of Kazakhstan dated October 30, 2020 No. 175/2020 “On approval of forms of health care documentation.” For departures from international stations, the conclusion must be accompanied by a translation into English. The validity of the conclusion is 30 days. A maternity record card is not required.

    Air Astana reserves the right to deny transport to an expectant mother, even with a medical certificate, if the expected due date falls within the subsequent 7 calendar days.

    Women after childbirth and newborn infants are not accepted for carriage within the first 7 calendar days after birth.

  • What discounts are available for children?

    Discount depends on routes:

    • Infants under 2 years travel free of charge on domestic flights, and children from 2 to 14 years travel at a 50% discount off the applicable adult fare;
    • on international flights from Kazakhstan to/from foreign countries, infants under 2 years old travel for free; on international flights between foreign countries via Kazakhstan, infants under 2 years old travel at a discount of 90% of the applicable adult fare. Children from 2 to 11 years inclusive on international flights to/from Kazakhstan travel at a discount of 50% off the full adult fare, and between foreign countries via Kazakhstan travel at a discount of 25% off the full adult fare.

  • Can unaccompanied minors fly on connecting flights?

    It is possible to confirm the acceptance of an unaccompanied minor on domestic transit flights within Kazakhstan, provided that the child is met and escorted in the transit city. The minimum connecting time between transit flights must be 2 hours.

    If your child is traveling with a connection from Almaty via Astana to Frankfurt, there is no need to arrange additional escort; the transit time must not exceed 2.5 hours for Almaty–London and 2 hours for the routes Almaty–Frankfurt, Frankfurt–Almaty, and London–Almaty.

  • Can children fly abroad on their own?

    Yes, provided that the service for the transportation of an unaccompanied minor has been confirmed and all required documents are available.

    Foreign citizens (parents or legal guardians), before sending an unaccompanied minor (under the age of 18) to Kazakhstan, must additionally verify all requirements of the immigration authorities of their own country.

  • How far in advance do I have to come to check in when sending an unaccompanied child?

    The unaccompanied child must arrive at the airport for check-in at least 1.5-2 hours before departure since verification and completion of accompanying documents are required.

  • Can unaccompanied minor fly alone on a plane?

    Unaccompanied children (from 6 to 15 years old inclusive) are allowed for transportation on request of parents or legal guardians of the child. The service is available for 16 to 17 years old passengers as well.

  • How do I book a crib for my baby?

    For passengers traveling with infants under one year of age, the airline can provide a baby bassinet. To reserve a bassinet, please inform your travel agency or complete the request form. This service is free of charge; however, it is only available when purchasing a paid MySEAT extra comfort seat.

  • Can I carry an infant car seat on board?

    Yes, you can if you issue a ticket for an infant with the provision of a separate seat. In this case, the width of the car seat must be at most 41 cm, and it must have mountings for fixation on the passenger seat. To confirm this service, please fill out this web form.

     

  • How late in pregnancy can I fly?

    It is recommended that pregnant women travel no later than four weeks before the expected due date.
    The airline will refuse carriage of pregnant women, even with a valid medical certificate, if delivery is expected within the next 7 calendar days.

  • In what language do I need the certificate if flying out of a foreign airport?

    When departing from foreign airports, the medical report /certificate of health of a pregnant woman must be translated into a foreign language used in the country of departure.

    Carriage may be denied in the following cases:

    • If the expected due date falls within the next 7 calendar days;

    • If refusal is required by the immigration regulations of the destination country;

    • At the discretion of the crew and ground staff, if the general physical condition of the pregnant passenger raises doubts about her ability to safely complete the flight.
